Former Massachusettes Governer and Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney is set to visit Atlanta in support of Senator Saxby as he heads towards Georgia’s senatorial run-off election on December 2 (thanks, peachpundit!):

According to the AP (via hotair.com), the above race for Saxby becomes ever the more important as Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK) has officially lost his bid for US Senate. This leaves the Minnesota Coleman/Franken race and the Georgia race left to determine if the Democrats have 58, 59, or the filibuster-proof 60 seats. Incidentally, Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) was preparing a resolution to boot Sen. Stevens in case he did win back his Alaska seat. Also, here’s why Sarah won’t be running for Senate.
Speaking of Gov. Palin, there is now word of a “Draft Sarah” for 2012 site (hotair.com).
Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich is dropping out of the race for Republican National Committee Chair (hotair.com). The same Washington Times article reports that former Maryland Lt. Governor Michael Steele has his bid in. NPR reports that Newt’s spokespeople are denying that Newt’s supporting Steele for the position. Sounds to me like reporters aren’t getting their stories straight on this one.
Here’s a great read from Redstate on how the Netroots are completely unsatisfied with the Democrat party’s decision over Lieberman (quote from CNN):
Reid, the Senate majority leader, said Lieberman’s criticism of the Democratic nominee had angered him.”I would defy anyone to be more angry than I was,” he said Tuesday. “But I also believe that if you look at the problems we face as a nation, is this a time we walk out of here saying, ‘Boy did we get even’?”
Obama urged Reid privately to let bygones be bygones, sources said.
Reid dismissed vehement criticism of the decision from elements of the party’s more liberal base, which insisted Lieberman be punished.
Then again, the Democrats also know that 2010 is coming.
The Senate GOP has officially picked its new leadership (hotair.com):
- Mitch McConnell (R-KY): Minority Leader (by acclamation)
- John Kyl (R-AZ): Whip
- John Ensign (R-NV) and John Thune (R-SD): Republican Policy Committee
- Lamar Alexander (R-TN): Conference Chairman
- John Cornyn (R-TX): National Republican Senatorial Committee
The consensus seems to be that all the above are good, solid picks for the upcoming Senate session.
